Asguard Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 October 2026
Short version: Asguard has no servers and collects nothing. It never sends your data anywhere. The one exception is not the app at all, it is your phone’s own backup, which may copy the app’s data to your own Google account on Android, or your own iCloud on iPhone, if you have that turned on. That section is below and it is worth reading.
Asguard ("the app") is an offline car and home maintenance tracker. It is designed with privacy as a core feature: there is no account, no sign-in, no ads, and no analytics.
What data the app stores
Everything you create in Asguard is stored only on your device, in the app's private storage:
- Your assets (cars, homes), their details, and a photo of each one if you add it
- Maintenance tasks, schedules, and due dates
- Service and expense records with their dates, costs, notes, and odometer readings, including one-off expenses and, if you enter it, what you paid for a car or home
- The fuel log for each car
- Receipts you choose to attach, as photos or PDFs
- Documents you file against a car or home, such as a photo or PDF of a licence, insurance card, registration or title
- Your name, if you choose to give it, and app settings
Asguard never sends any of it anywhere. We have no servers, so we never receive, see, or store your data, and there is nowhere for it to go. Your phone’s own backup is separate and is covered below.
What we do NOT do
- We do not collect any personal information.
- We do not transmit your data off your device. The app makes no network requests at all, and on Android it does not even have the internet permission. Exporting a backup or a spreadsheet of your history, transferring a car or home, and saving or sharing photos, documents or charts all work the same way. You decide where each copy goes, and the app only hands it to you.
- We do not share or sell data to anyone.
- We do not use advertising, ad networks, or third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
- We do not require an account or an internet connection to use the app.
Permissions the app uses
On Android
- Notifications, to remind you when maintenance is due.
- Run at startup, so your reminders survive a restart.
- Vibrate, so a reminder can buzz.
On Android the app requests no camera permission and no photo or media permission. When you add a photo of your car or home, a receipt or a document, it uses your device's built-in photo picker, camera or file picker.
On iPhone
- Notifications, to remind you when maintenance is due. iPhone asks you once, and you can change it any time in Settings.
- Camera, asked only the first time you take a photo in Asguard. The photo can be of your car or home, a receipt or a document, and it goes straight into the app's private storage.
- Photos. Choosing an existing photo uses the iPhone's own photo picker, which gives the app only the photo you pick. Asguard adds pictures to your library only when you tap Save or share in the viewer, or Settings › Save all photos, and then pick Save Image on the share sheet. That can be a receipt, a document, the photo of your car or home, or a chart.
On both
Anything you attach is copied into the app's private storage on your device. Photos, receipts, documents and charts open in Asguard's own viewer, so looking at something sends it nowhere. From the viewer, a copy leaves the app only when you tap one of these:
- Save (Android) writes a copy into a folder you pick.
- Share (Android) or Save or share (iPhone) hands a copy to the app you pick from your phone's share sheet.
- Open, on a PDF, hands over that one file and nothing else. On Android, a PDF reader on your phone gets permission to read it while the file is open. On iPhone, the share sheet opens and the app you pick there gets its own copy.
Settings › Save all photos does the same for every receipt and every car or home photo at once. On Android it copies them into a folder you pick. On iPhone it hands them to the share sheet.
A chart is turned into a picture on your phone only when you save or share it. Cropping also happens on your phone, and the cropped copy replaces the original.
Backups you create
Asguard lets you export a backup file containing your records, your receipts, your documents and the photos of your cars and homes. This file is created only when you ask for it, and it is handed to you (for example, to save to your own storage or share to your own cloud drive). The app does not upload it anywhere on its own. Once you export a file, how it is stored is under your control.
Transferring a car or home to someone else
If you sell a car or a home, Asguard can put everything it knows about that one asset into a single file for the new owner: its details, its maintenance schedule, its service and expense history, its fuel log, and its odometer readings. Receipts are included unless you switch them off. So is the photo of the car or home, and its switch warns you that the picture may show a number plate, a house number or the street. What you paid for the car or home, and what you spent on its insurance, tax and registration, stay with you unless you tick them. Documents are never included unless you tick them one by one, so a driving licence or an insurance policy filed against the car does not travel with it by accident.
The file is created only when you ask for it, and only for the one asset you chose. Asguard hands it to you, and you decide who receives it and how. As with a backup, the app does not upload it anywhere on its own, and once it leaves your device how it is stored and who sees it is outside our control and yours. Nothing about you as a person is included: your name, your units, your currency and your reminder settings stay on your device. Making the file changes nothing in your app, and does not delete your copy.
Receiving a transferred asset adds it alongside what you already have. It never replaces or removes anything of yours.
Automatic backup to a folder you choose (Android)
On Android you can optionally choose a folder on your device for Asguard to write backups into automatically. iPhone has no equivalent, and relies on iCloud Backup instead (see below). If you do:
- You pick the folder yourself, and Android grants Asguard access only to that folder.
- Backups are written directly to that folder on your device. Asguard has no server and never sends the file to us or to any third party.
- If the folder you choose is synchronised by another app (for example a cloud storage app), that app's own terms and privacy policy govern what happens to the file from there.
You can stop automatic backups at any time in Settings, which also releases Asguard's access to that folder.
Device (OS-level) backup
On Android
Depending on your Android device's own backup settings, the Android operating system may include the app's data in the standard device backup to your personal Google account. This is a function of your device and your Google account settings, governed by Google's Privacy Policy. Asguard has no server and never sends your data to us or to any third party.
You should know exactly what that includes, because Asguard makes a deliberate choice here:
- Your records (assets, tasks, service history, fuel log, the details of your documents and settings) are included, so they come back when you install Asguard on a new phone.
- Your receipts, documents and the photos of your cars and homes are excluded from that backup by default, because Android limits how much an app may store. Going over that limit makes Android skip the whole backup, records and all.
- So that they are not simply lost with a broken phone, Asguard writes a size-capped bundle of your documents and your most recent receipts and photos (up to about 12 MB) into the data Android backs up. Documents go in first, because an insurance card matters more than a fuel receipt. The newest receipts and car or home photos fill the rest. Anything too large to fit, and anything older once the bundle is full, is left out rather than allowed to break the backup. What does fit goes to your own Google account with your records, and comes back on its own on a new phone.
- You can see exactly what is and is not covered at any time under Settings › If you lost this phone today, and you can protect every photo and document at full quality by choosing a backup folder.
All of this goes to your Google account, not ours. You can turn the device backup off entirely in your phone's backup settings.
On iPhone
If iCloud Backup is on, your iPhone includes Asguard's data in its backup to your own iCloud account, the same as any other app. That covers everything: your records, your receipts, your documents and the photos of your cars and homes, at full quality. A backup of your iPhone to a computer includes them in the same way. This is a function of your iPhone and your Apple Account, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. Asguard has no server and never sends your data to us or to any third party.
You can turn iCloud Backup on or off in Settings › your name › iCloud › iCloud Backup.
Keeping and deleting your data
Asguard keeps your data on your device until you delete it. There is no copy anywhere else that we control.
- Everything at once: Settings › Erase all data removes every car and home, every record, every receipt, every photo and every document from the app.
- One car or home: deleting it from its edit screen removes its photo, records, receipts and documents with it.
- Replaced or removed files: when you change or remove the photo of a car or home, replace a document's file or crop a photo, the old file is deleted from the app. A photo picked while you add a car or home is deleted too if you leave without saving it.
- Uninstalling the app deletes everything it stored on your device.
- Copies in your phone's backup (your Google account on Android, your iCloud on iPhone) follow that backup's own settings. You can delete them there.
- Files you exported, transferred, saved or shared are outside the app. Delete them wherever you saved or sent them.
Because we never receive your data, there is nothing for us to delete and nothing to request. If you have a question, write to the address below.
Children's privacy
Asguard is a general-purpose utility and is not directed to children. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this page with a new "Last updated" date.
